Mayotte Public Health: Bi-Monthly Report on Gastroenteritis and Skin Infections

2023-08-21 01:33:53

In view of this epidemiological calendar, which is highly conducive to cases of gastroenteritis and skin infections, in this austral winter combined with this restriction of access to drinking water, the France-Mayotte public health unit makes a bi- monthly report on the situation with regard to existing health risks.

The increase in sales of antidiarrheals is confirmed in comparison with the previous bulletin but seems relatively at a similar level to what was observed in previous years. The most affected municipalities are those of Boueni, M’tsangamouji and Tsingoni at 3% and Dzaoudzi and Ouangani excelling at 4%.

Concerning the emergency attendance rate for reasons of gastroenteritis, especially among children under 5 years old, it is also relatively stable, even lower, compared to previous observations.

With regard to consultations with so-called sentinel physicians, in the network, concerning skin infections such as folliculitis, impetigo, abscess or furuncle, for example, the rate is intended to be higher compared to previous years observed with, in addition, a increased activity specifically related to this pattern.

Regarding the hospital component in this same direction, a slight increase is to be reported after 7 weeks of significant decline.

In view of the situation, the Regional Health Agency and the Prefecture of Mayotte recall the precautions to be taken.
