The mayor of Soacha (Cundinamarca), Julián Sánchez ‘Perico’, took a tour of the facilities of what should be the municipality’s Animal Welfare Center and which should be ready to come into operation this week.
However, it was evident that the work was abandoned and that the last administration did not complete what was promised, so Sánchez assured that he will not let the place become a ‘white elephant’.
“It is worrying and I am leaving with a broken heart. It is not possible that they want to give us a work like this. All of us present had the expectations of being able to receive the place for its operation, but it is a painted facade. The technical standards are not met, neither is what was executed by the contractor and public resources cannot be wasted in that way,” said the mayor.

For this reason, the formation of a technical panel was announced that will meet next Monday, February 26, to develop a roadmap that will allow the completion of the works and open the Animal Welfare Center. For that reason, Senator Andrea Padilla will accompany the entire process.
“Due to the conditions of Soacha, this is not the responsibility of the city alone. We have to think regarding strengthening, caring for and guaranteeing the rights of our animals in the region. Count on me at the table to move this project forward,” said the senator.

Mayor Sánchez said that animal welfare is one of the priorities of his administration and that is why he will seek to ensure that the contractor complies with the agreement and the Animal Welfare Center is completed.
