Mayor of Medellin gives official report of the accident in Manrique

A traffic accident occurred this Monday afternoon on the corner of Calle 69 and Carrera 44, in the Manrique neighborhood of Medellín.

At 5:50 pm, a special transport bus allegedly suffered a brake failure and hit two taxis, a motorcycle and a subway feeder bus.

Unfortunately, the accident left two people dead and sixteen injured, who were transferred to health centers to receive medical attention.

The news has shocked the community and local authorities have expressed their solidarity with the families of the victims and those affected.

The mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, has expressed his regret and has assured that the victims will receive psychological and legal support through the Victim Assistance Center of the Ministry of Mobility.

The Department of Disaster Risk Management (DAGRED), health services, the police and traffic authorities are present at the scene of the accident, managing the emergency and providing assistance.

The bus involved in the accident had valid SOAT and a Mechanical Technician certificate.

The Judicial Police of Mobility is carrying out a technical inspection of the vehicle to determine exactly the cause of the incident.

Authorities have recommended that citizens avoid the area and take alternate routes due to the partial closure of 69th Street and 44th Avenue while the investigation and response work is completed.
