In a forceful statement today, July 23, the mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, addressed the worrying situation that occurred with UNP vehicles in the department.
He expressed concerns about possible direct government complicity with criminal organisations, observing the UNP transporting fugitive criminals.
“What is really happening?” the mayor asked, pointing to a lack of effective peace and an apparent surrender of state territory to criminal structures.

“Are criminal structures really ruling? That would be even more alarming,” he added.
The mayor stressed the seriousness of the incident as evidence of his ongoing concerns.
He criticized the alleged complacency and complicity of the government with dissidents of the FARC and other criminal organizations, describing the situation as unacceptable.
“With each passing day, the scandals are getting worse,” the mayor lamented, while praising the courage of the army for the recent capture of a criminal, stressing the need to address the growing security crisis seriously.
