A tense moment was experienced this Monday in the meeting that the Mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, had with the Antioquia bench in Congress.

The protagonists were precisely the mayor and Senator Isabel Zuleta, of the Historical Pact. And although the main purpose of the meeting was to talk regarding how Congress is going to put pressure on the national government to allocate key resources for the infrastructure of Medellín and Antioquia, such as the Tren del Río, the 80 Metro and the 4G highways, the president launched a series of taunts at the Congresswoman for the Total Peace talks that the national government has with some of the leaders of the criminal structures that operate in Medellín.

It must be remembered that Senator Isabel Zuleta has been a protagonist in these conversations and has always accompanied the Petro government delegation on its excursions to the Itagüí prison, which is the headquarters of the dialogues in the city.

The president made a demand to the congresswoman that he has been making since the Mayor’s campaign: “If they (criminal organizations) really have a desire for peace, they should stop murdering, stop extorting, stop recruiting boys, girls and young people, stop moving.” If that happens, he assured, he is committed to taking care “from a social point of view” of the more than 6,000 young people who are part of these groups outside the law.

Furthermore, the mayor reproached Zuleta for using Total Peace as a political weapon in the last presidential elections, where Gutiérrez came third, behind President Petro and Rodolfo Hernández.

“Another thing is that they use Total Peace as a political weapon as you know they used it in the campaign and you did. They talk so much regarding peace and what they do is use the tools of the State to see how they affect the political opponent, and that is true and you know that it was like that,” she accused her.

Then, the mayor of Medellín once more expressed his disagreement with the lack of clarity and information regarding the dialogues that have been carried out. “What agreements are they making there (in prison)? Only you know because they enter his house like Pedro,” he claimed.

Finally, Gutiérrez insisted on his request that the victims of these criminal organizations be taken into account in the negotiations and there he took the opportunity to launch the last attack on Senator Zuleta, although it seemed that he was speaking to the entire national government, especially President Petro. : “You who love to talk so much regarding the victims and are happy with the perpetrators.”

That tense moment of the meeting was recorded in an almost two-minute video that was spread on social networks. Until now neither the senator from the Historical Pact nor Mayor Gutiérrez have referred further to the issue.
