The Ecuadorian Interior Minister, Juan Zapata, reported this Sunday followingnoon that the mayor of the coastal city of Manta, Agustín Intriago, died following being the victim of an armed attack once morest him.
He added in a tweet that another collateral fatality and 4 injuries were recorded in the incident, 2 of them – he indicated – involved in the incident, who are in police custody in a health home.
“Our total solidarity with the family and friends of the mayor of Manta, Agustín Intriago, in the face of his sensitive death due to an armed attack. The National Police is deployed to locate and capture those responsible for this reprehensible act,” Zapata said.
The National Police added that it has deployed specialized units that are activated to find those responsible and find out the motivations for the crime.
Agustín Intriago was re-elected as mayor of Manta by the “Best City” movement in the February elections of this year and since May he has once once more exercised his duties at the head of this city, one of the most important ports in Ecuador.
