Minuto30.com .- After the video of Saúl Arias Sintua, leader of the indigenous community camping at UPI La Rioja, assaulting a woman inside the camp, both Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán and the Secretary of Government spoke out.

Gustavo Quintero Ardila explained that although the video was not known until August 22, the assault was committed on August 17 and was recorded by the woman’s relatives.

The senior official indicated that “we already have active routes and we are preparing the corresponding complaint” because according to Quintero Ardila, “the investigations need to yield results soon and this man needs to receive the punishment he deserves.”

The Secretary of Government emphasizes that the return of these indigenous communities to their territories is vital: “The situation of the Embera in the city cannot wait any longer.”

He also assures that they are working “tirelessly to ensure that this type of situation does not continue to occur.”

For his part, the mayor of Bogotá asked the prosecutor’s office “to prosecute this aggressor so that he can be arrested as soon as possible.” Galán reiterated that “abuse and mistreatment against a woman is an attack against all the people of Bogotá.”

The mayor reiterates his call to the National Government to accelerate the process of returning indigenous people to their territories.
