Vienna(OTS) From 2024, the City of Vienna will establish an award for exceptional cultural services to the City of Vienna. The new awards complement the City of Vienna’s Patronage and Commendation Awards, which have been awarded in individual categories since 1947. The first recipient of the award was journalist and author Dietmar Grieser. Today, Tuesday, he accepted the award in the Red Salon of Vienna Town Hall.

In his welcome speech, Mayor Ludwig praised the author as a “true Viennese by choice”: comparable to the protagonist in his best-selling book “Vienna – The Adoption Home of Geniuses”, in which He chose stories about the lives of other Viennese people, including Prince Eugen. , Brahms, Beethoven or Salieri were world famous in Vienna, and Griese would also find a productive environment for his literary works in this city.

During his career, Griese published more than 50 books, many of which were related to Vienna, as Mayor Ludwig highlighted in his honorary speech, including All Roads Lead to Vienna, “Only in Vienna”, “Vienna Address”, etc.

City Councilor for Culture Veronika Koop-Hassler also highlighted Griese’s commitment to Vienna in her speech of praise – “Your interest and enthusiasm for your adopted homeland is extraordinary” – and praised his great narrative talent. “How lucky we are that you are a working immigrant, a living immigrant and therefore a true Viennese!” concludes Kaup-Hasler.

Professor Dietmar Grieser was born in Hannover in 1934 and has lived in Vienna since 1957.
