The City of Vienna is supporting the psychosocial health center ESRA with an additional 100,000 euros
Vienna (OTS/RK) – Today, Wednesday, a memorial event by the Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) took place at Vienna’s Ballhausplatz. Mayor Michael Ludwig, together with IKG President Oskar Deutsch, Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler and hundreds of mourners, commemorated the victims of Hamas’ major attack on Israel.
The mayor was deeply affected in his speech. He also emphasized the close cooperation with Israel: “It was only a few days ago that I presented a new project together with the long-standing ambassador of the State of Israel: a youth exchange between the city of Vienna and Tel Aviv. I mention this project, which we are incredibly proud of, because it shows how close and continuous our exchange with Israel is.”
The city of Vienna is aware of its historical responsibility towards Israel and Judaism. “What we are particularly proud of in this regard: Vienna today has one of the most vibrant Jewish communities in Europe.” Mayor Ludwig then mentioned his presence at the unveiling of the commemorative plaque for Theodor Herzl by Israeli President Herzog. “We have a shared, international responsibility to preserve Israel’s right to exist,” said the mayor.
He was dismayed by the attacks and acts of violence by Hamas and described them as a cowardly terrorist attack once morest civilian victims. “It is in the nature of terrorism to spread fear and terror. However, we will not allow ourselves to be frightened; we will continue to stand by the State of Israel and by the Jewish community in our city of Vienna in the future.”
The city of Vienna is making its contribution and supporting the psychosocial health center ESRA. “Due to the current situation, the ESRA team has set up a crisis support service since last weekend. This service is aimed at Viennese people who have family, relatives or significant others in Israel. As a small part of solidarity for Israel, we want to support the association with an additional 100,000 euros.” The mayor concluded by calling for an end to the terror. “Vienna stands in solidarity: for life. Against violence and terror!”
