The mayor of the Rojas municipality in the state of Barinas, Pedro Antonio Abreu, reiterated this Monday his support for the unitarian presidential candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, and denied that he had joined Nicolás Maduro’s campaign.
“People of Barinas, I am writing to you to inform you that I am in the city of Barinas, at 2:20 a.m. on July 8, surprised by some news that is circulating on the networks where they say that I am declaring myself as an independent mayor supporting Nicolás Maduro. I want to categorically deny with all my seriousness and responsibility that this is false,” said Abreu in a video released to the media.
He stressed that he was elected mayor in 2021 by the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) and that he has continued “working for a united people without looking at political colors.”
In his message, Mayor Pedro Antonio Abreu confirmed that he is “supporting the candidacy of Edmundo González Urrutia for a change towards Venezuelan democracy.” This Monday, the head of the command of the Chavista regime, Jorge Rodríguez, announced that the mayors of Roscio (Guárico), Tinaco (Cojedes), Obispos (Barinas) and Rojas (Barinas) were joining the campaign for the reelection of Nicolás Maduro.
