A 21-hour flight and the heavy weight of leaving family and friends behind stand between Mayo footballer Kobe McDonald and his immediate future, but the pull of a professional sports career has won out.
Dublin Revelations at the PwC All-Stars
Attending the 2026 PwC All-Stars in Dublin alongside his partner Leah Maheady, McDonald used the occasion to reveal plans to relocate to Australia for his professional sporting career. Before his departure, he emphasized the significance of sharing the high-profile event with his family and partner.
Splitting Time Across Hemispheres
Leah Maheady will remain in Ireland until next summer to complete her college studies before making the permanent move to join him. Once reunited in Australia, the couple plans to settle into their new environment together, bridging a geographical divide that requires careful planning.
Balancing Aussie Rules and Six-Hour Golf Rounds
While football remains his primary focus abroad, McDonald has already picked up a new hobby to occupy his downtime between rigorous training sessions. He has taken up golf—though he admitted his rounds stretch to about six hours and joked that his current skill level is poor, viewing the sport simply as a practical distraction from Aussie Rules.
Star-Studded Gathering of GAA Figures
The Dublin event drew numerous other prominent GAA figures and their partners. Attendees included Kerry footballer Jason Foley and Katie Ahern, Westmeath footballer Matthew Whittaker and Leah Duffy, Limerick hurler William O’Donoghue and Gemma O’Donoghue, and Cork hurler Sean O’Donoghue and Aoife Daly.
