“Maybe we have to do it once more”
Trump fuels speculation regarding a new presidential candidacy
Since his election defeat, Donald Trump has been flirting with a return to the White House. Now the ex-president has set the rumor mill boiling at an election campaign event.
Does he or not? Former US President Donald Trump (76) has repeatedly hinted at a political comeback since leaving the White House.
At a campaign event in the state of Arizona, Trump has once once more fueled speculation regarding a possible candidacy in the 2024 presidential election.
“Maybe we have to do it once more,” Trump told his supporters late Friday night following speaking regarding his 2016 election victory and once more denying losing the 2020 election. Even today, almost two years following the election, Trump refuses to admit defeat to US President Joe Biden (79).
“The journey has only just begun”
Trump appeared in Prescott Valley, Arizona, to support Republican nominee Kari Lake, 52, in the party’s internal primary for governor. The former journalist urgently needs Trump’s support. Although she is currently leading the polls, it is likely to be a tight race.
With a view to the congressional elections in the fall and the presidential election in 2024, Trump said: “We will retake the Senate. We’re going to take back America, and most importantly, in 2024, we’re going to take back our beautiful, magnificent White House.” Trump would be 78 years old when elected in just over two and a half years. For him, however, no obstacle. “This incredible journey we are on together has only just begun,” Trump said.
Ex-Vice Pence campaigns for opposing candidate
Former Vice President Mike Pence (63) also campaigned for support for the Republicans in Arizona on Friday evening, albeit at a different event. Pence supports rival candidate Karrin Taylor Robson (55) in the race for the governorship.
Observers are taking this as the latest sign that Pence wants to distance himself from his former boss – because both might be aiming for a possible candidacy for the White House in 2024. (SDA/ced)
