The Lebanese dance group “Mayas” won first place in the talent show “America’s Got Talent” during its 17th season, giving it a prize of one million dollars.
The band received the largest percentage of the vote, amid intense global competition for the title, following distinguished performances presented during its participation in the most famous American program in America and the world.
The band performs a performance that draws from oriental dance, but in a modern way with a combination of visual and sound effects, and includes between 20 to 30 performers according to the types of performances, and it previously won first place in the “Arab Got Talent” in 2019.
The band was founded by Nadim Cherfan, and this is her second international participation following she participated in the “Britain’s Got Talent” (which is organized in Britain). It consists of female performers and dancers between 13 and 25 years old.
The band raised the slogan “Karmalek Ya Lebanon” in the finals, and its performance embodied the Lebanese cedar tree. It also focused on the white color during the final performance in confirmation of the messages of peace directed to Lebanon and the world.
This coronation comes in light of very difficult economic and social conditions in Lebanon, which have worsened sharply during the past months, especially with regard to the scarcity of gasoline, poor supplies and high inflation rates.
Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati congratulated the band on the victory, and said in a tweet: “Once once more, the Lebanese creativity is manifested by a wonderful performance by Mayass Band in the United States of America, hoping that success will always be associated with it. Congratulations on the victory and more brilliance.”
