Maxton Hall is the new enemies-to-lovers series that you have to see

This May 9 it premiered in Amazon Prime Video the Serie Maxton Hallthe adaptation of the book series Save Me by the German writer Mona Kasten and if you love stories enemies-to-lovers or the series regarding rich teenagers in trouble, you have to see it.

In it we meet the brothers James and Lydia Beaufort, the golden children from Maxton Hall boarding school and part of one of the most important families in Germany, whose path crosses with Ruby Bell, a scholarship student who does not belong to that world.

We were able to talk to Harriet Herbig-Matten, who plays Ruby, and Sonja Weißer, who plays Lydia, and this is what they told us regarding their characters.

We speak to two of Maxton Hall’s stars

Harriet, what can you tell us regarding your character?

Ruby is very smart and sweet, but she has to fight for her position in the world and at school, because she comes from a different social class and is a outsider at school. He wants to be invisible and just finish high school and be able to go to Oxford.

But she discovers a secret from Lydia and James comes into her life and everything gets complicated, she falls in love.

Sonja, what was it like for you to create your character?

At first you may believe that she is a very simple character and that she is guided by hate, but in reality she is moved by love. Her worst enemy is herself, because it is very difficult for her to exist within her family, which is very strict and patriarchal.

When reading the books, I tried to find what is behind the words he says and how he behaves in different situations, to understand what his deepest self and inner conflict is.

Had you already read the books before being part of the series?

H: I read the first two when I was 14 and I was a big fan.

S: I hadn’t read them but I remember seeing the covers in bookstores. They gave me the role close to filming, so I listened to the audiobooks so I might get the information faster.

The two have been acting for a long time although they are very young. Harriet, your character also has a lot of ambition and knows what she wants from her, did you relate to her in this sense?

H: Yes. I started when I was 12, so for me it wasn’t a job, it was fun. But I think it gave me a lot of confidence and shaped my personality. And in that I am like Ruby, we are focused and passionate when it comes to our dreams and goals.

How do you think fans will react to this series? How similar is the story to the books?

S: It is a very difficult question. When the series was announced, reactions were very polarized, but I think it’s important to remember that the series is based on the books but is not an exact adaptation of each book. Some things work in a book but not in a series of 6 one-hour episodes.

Personally, I see many similarities with the storylines and with the casting. We take the world the author created and expand it.

H: I think my bangs got really bad comments from fans hahaha because Ruby doesn’t have bangs in the books.

What are your best memories and anecdotes from the set?

H: We have many, we became best friends by seeing each other every day but the whole cast came together a lot. We had great nights together, we always went to dinner and every day was super special.

The first season ends leaving many questions, are you ready for all the chaos it will generate for fans?

S: Am I ready? I don’t know, yes I’m excited and waiting for you to see the last chapters, but I don’t know if I’m ready. We’ve been working on this for two years, so it’s like our baby coming into the world, but it will be very interesting to know what the fans think.
