The average retail price of electricity is still 1,864.44 VND per kWh, applied from 2019 to now.
Regarding electricity prices, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has also sent a document to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) requesting to urgently complete the plan of the average retail electricity price in 2023.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requested EVN to focus resources to complete the 2022 electricity production and business cost settlement report, the 2022 financial report of the parent company of Vietnam Electricity and its member units. members, and at the same time work with reputable independent auditing units to audit reports in accordance with regulations.
Meanwhile, EVN said that it is estimated that in 2022, the parent company EVN, the power corporations and the National Power Transmission Corporation will have a production and business loss of more than 28,876 billion dong. The reason for the big loss last year was the sharp increase in input parameters (imported coal price, blended coal price, gas price, world oil price) and the additional cost of buying electricity when power plants joined the electricity market.
This year, the parent company EVN, the power corporations and the National Power Transmission Corporation expect a production and business loss of regarding 64,941 billion dong, if the retail price of electricity stays the same.
In which, in the first 6 months of the year, EVN expects a loss of 44,099 billion dong and the last 6 months is expected to lose 20,842 billion dong.
Thus, together with the loss in 2022 (VND 28,876 billion), the total accumulated loss of EVN’s production and business in 2022 and 2023 might reach more than VND 93,000 billion.
Last year, the Vietnam Electricity Group repeatedly requested the Minister of Industry and Trade to consider early approval and adjust the average retail price of electricity. However, to date, this plan has not been approved.
