There is movement on the protein side with Nestlé Health Science, between Protiscore and renewal on the side of the flagship range of Oral Nutritional Supplements (OCN) Clinutren. We recall that clinical nutrition has for many years integrated the Oral Nutritional Supplements (CNO) in its spectrum of action. High protein, high energy or both, it can be easy to get lost for healthcare professionals and patients. The Protiscore allows you to know in an instant the protein intake in your oral nutritional supplements.
Nestlé Health Science, a historic player in clinical nutrition and oral nutritional supplements
Nestlé Health Science is a company belonging to the Nestlé group, specialized in the development of nutritional solutions intended for malnourished patients of all ages, pathologies or needs. With its brand of oral nutritional supplements Clinutrenhistorically known for its Renutryl reference, Nestlé Health Science offers around twenty products to meet all needs.
Sold in pharmacies under a doctor’s prescription, oral nutritional supplements are Foodstuffs for Special Medical Purposes (DADFMS) dedicated to sick people, particularly malnourished, and whose normal diet intake is not sufficient. In this sector, there are many health players and different types of products : juice, cream, milk drink, etc. The objective of the CNO is to achieve an additional food intake of 30 grams of protein for a malnourished patient. Indeed, the High Authority of Health (HAS) recommends a minimum intake of 30g of protein per day.
Protiscore, new display to know the protein content in Clinutren products
Pour facilitate the prescription and understanding of products by healthcare professionals and patients, Nestlé Health Science launched the Protiscoreand communication tool to clarify the protein intake of products in the Clinutren range.
Represented by a bar systemthe Protiscore breaks down protein intake into four levels : 8, 14, 20 and 30 grams. The objective is to quickly visualize the quantity of proteins present in a product and thus be able to easily associate references in order to reach the 30 grams of protein recommended by the HAS. Clinutren references are now segmented according to their Protiscore on the brand’s website.
A renewal of protein right through to packaging
The Protiscore did not arrive alone! In parallel with this new tool, Nestlé Health Science has chosen to modernize Clinutren packaging in order to make it more attractive to patients. We are now moving away a little from the classic medical and pharmaceutical world of oral nutritional supplements to get closer to packagings plus mainstream. The opportunity to show the weight of consumer choice even in this segment, or a renewal in the clinical nutrition market?
Going further on protein with Clinutren Ultra
Going a step further on the subject of protein intake, Nestlé Health Science has at the same time launched a new CNO reference, the Clinutren Ultra. This is the oral nutritional supplement the most concentrated on the market from a protein point of view, with an intake of 30 grams in one dose. High-protein and high-energy, this solution meets the HAS recommendations in one go, and perfectly illustrates the Protiscore: 2 in 1 in one bottle!
The Protiscore, a tool with multiple interests but to what extent?
Intended for healthcare professionals and patientsthe Protiscore wants to be facilitator of delivery and compliance with oral nutritional supplements. By raising patient awareness through this visual principle of bars to fill, Nestlé Health Science wishes to provide visual aid and encourages people to turn to products richer from a protein point of view. An opportunity to educate patients on the nutritional side of drinks, when we know that they are more attracted to juices and creams with less protein concentration.
But what regarding the patient’s understanding of this score? Indeed, one might wonder how consumers received this tool. If the educational side leaves no doubt, it would be a shame to attend a poor understanding and a constant search for products directly filling the 4 bars of Clinutren’s Protiscore. Like any score, it needs to be well understood and understood by the consumer.
