Maximize comfort in a small space – that’s what city homes are all regarding. This is a house built for Lib and Tani, an IT couple from Kakkanad, for 5 cents.
Elevation is a contemporary+fusion style. Flat+slope roofs adorn the exterior.
Porch, sitting, living, dining, kitchen, workshop, one bedroom and bathroom are on the ground floor. Upstairs there are three bath attached bedrooms. The bedrooms were concentrated upstairs to create more space for common spaces below.
The house is facing north direction. The interior layout is accessed from the carporch to the sitting area and from there to the visiting area.
A terracotta artwork has been fixed instead of the regular patterned wall decors in the living room. Sofa is also present here.
Entering from the living room is a space arranged with dining, TV area and prayer unit.
A 6 seater dining table set is arranged in the dining area. Near here the side wall has been raised and enclosed and turned into a side courtyard. A terracotta fountain, water body and fish adorn the courtyard. The wash area and common toilet are arranged near this courtyard.
The dining-kitchen is semi-open. This kitchen is done in pastel green+white combination with lots of storage space. Nano White was used in the counter space. A workaria was also arranged to complement the pantry kitchen.
Although the house is built on a small plot, the bedrooms are spacious. The master bedroom has a study area and fitted wardrobe with plenty of storage. The children’s room also has a bay window.
Upstairs, the laundry area and balcony are separated by truss roofing. The balcony is the favorite place of the family during the holidays.
In short, the magic of the design is that once inside the house, it doesn’t feel like a house built within the constraints of 5 cents.
