The Minnesota Wild head coach made an enigmatic decision Wednesday night in Game 2 of the series once morest the Dallas Stars.
After a 51-save performance in the Wild’s 3-2 overtime win in the opening duel, goaltender Filip Gustavsson gave way to Quebecer Marc-André Fleury in the second game. Unfortunately for “Flower,” he allowed seven goals on 31 shots in a 7-3 loss.
It was enough for Maxim Lapierre to come out of his hinges.
“I have seen in my career several coaches like that, underlined Lapierre, Thursday, during the emission JiC on TVA Sports, talking regarding Wild coach Dean Evason. They are trying to recreate hockey.
“It’s simple […] You win, you keep the alignment. You don’t win, you change business. It’s quite simple. […] You put your keeper on until he breaks.”
And the former Habs agitator did not stop there.
“Let’s give him the title of lemon of the week,” he said dryly following learning that Gustavsson would not be injured.
Host Jean-Charles Lajoie also criticizes Evason’s decision to opt for Fleury.
“We might have challenged his decision in game number 1 by saying go ahead with the veteran, you gave him more starts in the season, vociferated Lajoie. He went with the kid, Perfect. THE kid does the job, why are you taking it out?”
