Max Verstappen causes trouble with a private trip on the Côte d’Azur.
The Formula 1 world champion was traveling too fast in an Aston Martin.
That’s why the police in France are now investigating him.
World Champion Max Verstappen is hard to beat in Formula 1 at the moment, but now a private jaunt might bring him a lot of trouble. The Dutchman himself posted a video on Instagram at the weekend that showed him driving an Aston Martin Valkyrie (worth around 2.6 million francs) near Nice. His friend and personal trainer Mark Cox films him from the passenger seat.
As in Formula 1, Verstappen puts the pedal to the metal, but massively above the permitted 90 km/h. As can be seen in the short clip, the 25-year-old high-flyer in motorsport races through the Canta-Galet tunnel at 124 km/h. In addition, the Red Bull driver at the wheel is anything but focused on driving. Again and once more he presses around on the car’s touchscreen, just holds the steering wheel with one hand and keeps looking away from the road.
threatened with a fine
Not exactly exemplary behavior by the Formula 1 dominator, which has now also called the police into action. According to consistent French media reports, the national gendarmerie is investigating Verstappen. “Super Max” is threatened with a fine for speeding and endangering the lives of others.
Whether he is threatened with further consequences from his Red Bull racing team and the international association FIA remains to be seen. So far there is no evidence in this regard, although numerous fans on social media have speculated regarding it. The clip of Verstappen’s jaunt on the Côte d’Azur has met with great incomprehension online in recent days. The motorsport superstar is accused of exemplary and irresponsible behavior.
hearing protection required
Meanwhile, the fact that Verstappen operates the luxury sled (maximum acceleration: 355 km/h) with large headphones including hearing protection is causing amusement on the Internet. These are recommended by the manufacturer Aston Martin on the homepage. “The car is so loud and boisterous that every Aston Martin Valkyrie comes with helicopter-quality hearing protection to protect your eardrums,” writes the carmaker. A microphone on the outside of the car picks up sirens and other signals and sends them to the headphones.
Verstappen himself has not yet spoken out regarding his misconduct and the reactions to it. His focus should currently be on the restart of Formula 1 following the summer break. At the weekend, Verstappen’s home Grand Prix will take place in the Dutch coastal town of Zandvoort. You can find out in our live ticker whether the two-time world champion will also be on top of the podium on Sunday.
