Max Verstappen has just won his third consecutive title by sweeping away the competition in F1. At 26, the Dutch driver reigns over the paddocks at the wheel of his Red Bull. And he doesn’t necessarily imagine leaving the British team, with which he is under contract until 2028.
Fourteen victories out of seventeen Grand Prix. Max Verstappen has left almost nothing to his rivals this season in Formula 1. At the wheel of his RB19, the Dutch driver has done a series of demonstrations throughout the year. To the point of being crowned champion for the third time in a row, last weekend in Qatar. With five Grands Prix remaining.
After starting in 2015 with Toro Rosso, the Dutchman joined Red Bull the following year, with whom he is under contract until 2028. And at 26, he does not rule out ending his career within the British stable. “It would be a great story if I might drive here forever, for sure, it would be something incredible,” he confided in an interview with Sky Sports. “I’m very happy where I am. I feel at home. I’m very happy with the people I’m close to on the team.”
The quality of the car that will be provided to him will still be a determining factor for his future at Red Bull. But at the moment, Verstappen can’t imagine himself elsewhere: “I still have a few years of contract left, so I’m enjoying the present moment.” Despite his string of victories, the native of Hasselt (in the north-east of Belgium) believes that he can still progress on the track. To strive for perfection.
“I will continue as long as I like it”
“I’m trying to see what I can do better to improve as a driver,” he explains. “Every year you learn and you become a better driver, not necessarily faster, but you can certainly handle different situations better through experience. All drivers have good times and bad times. That’s what makes this beautiful sport.”
With three titles already on the clock, Max Verstappen is still a good distance from the historic record of Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, crowned seven times. But at this rate, he might quickly approach it. “It’s not really what I’m looking for. I’m just enjoying the moment, he assures. I’m trying to do my best (…) I will continue as long as I like it and I can tell myself that I am fully committed to doing it 100%. The day I can no longer fully commit, I will stop. Passion is extremely important to succeed. Every time I come to the track, I want to win!”
