Dutch Formula 1 racer Max Verstappen admits he will have options in the driver market in 2026. However, his main priority is to help the Red Bull team return to the top.
The three-time Formula 1 world champion has an exit clause in his current Red Bull deal that runs until 2028. His future has been a source of speculation this season, following behind-the-scenes power struggles and several key staff set to leave the Milton Keynes-based team the.
Verstappen was approached by Mercedes principal Toto Wolff, especially when Red Bull began to struggle for good performance, before Mercedes officially committed to recruiting young driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli, last month.

The 26-year-old hinted at the possibility of changing teams in 2026, but stressed he was more concerned with improving Red Bull’s form than anything else.
“Yes, of course, I know it’s possible, but I don’t think too much about it at the moment. I think at the moment, I’m already worried enough about other things that we want to do better,” said Verstappen, quoted by Motorsport, Thursday ( 10/17).
“We’ll see what will happen in the future. Right now I’m not thinking too much about it, to be honest. However, if it doesn’t happen, then so be it. It won’t change my life,” he continued.

With Verstappen also of interest to Aston Martin, a team that has recently attracted other key Red Bull members, including Adrian Newey, Red Bull is aware of what must be done to get the Dutchman out of his current deal, namely give him a competitive car.
“Most big drivers have exit clauses in their contracts related to performance, and Max is no different,” said Red Bull Racing team advisor Helmut Marko.
“So if we can’t give him a car to fight at the front, then that will definitely be something he will think about.” (Z-1)
