The Dutchman Max Verstappen further strengthened his leadership in Formula 1 by leading a new Red Bull double with his partner, the Mexican Sergio Pérez, at the Belgian Grand Prix this Sunday.

At the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Verstappen, 25, achieved his 45th F1 victory – his tenth of the season and eighth in a row – making it clear that it is very difficult for him to miss the three-time championship.

Behind him came Checo Pérez, second in the general table and who signed his 33rd podium in the premier category of motorsport.

With this victory, Red Bull confirmed the best start of all time by scoring the first 12 races of the season, improving by one the previous record, owned by McLaren, which in 1988 had won the first eleven at the hands of the duo made up of by the Brazilian Ayrton Senna (7 wins), later champion, and the French Alain Prost (4).

The podium at Spa-Francorchamps, the longest track in the championship (44 laps for a 308-kilometre route) was completed by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) from Monegasque, followed by Englishman Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Spanish Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Englishman George Russell (Mercedes), his compatriot Lando Norris (Mercedes), Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Alpine-Renault), Canadian Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) and Japanese Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri-Honda).

The 2023 F1 World Cup will now go into a break to resume activity at the end of August at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Thus, the main positions were with Verstappen (314 points), Pérez (189), Alonso (149), Hamilton (148) and Leclerc (99). In the constructors’ championship the differences are even wider: Red Bull (503), Mercedes (247), Aston Martin (196), Ferrari (103) and Alpine-Renault (57).
