Max Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, putting him in third place on the all-time wins list. He becomes the third winningest driver in the 73-year history of the highest category of motorsport. It was a dream season for Max.
He reached 54 wins and left behind Sebastian Vettel, another who knew how to be world champion with Red Bull. On the last date the Dutchman gave another monologue that was a finishing touch following achieving his third ecumenical title.
Good start by Verstappen who maintained the lead and was closely followed by the Monegasque Charles Leclerc who managed to put the car on par, he surpassed him by a few meters, but in the next the three-time world champion had the rope and regained control. It was on lap 18 that Max stopped him in the pits and they put hard tires on him.
The short-lived leader of the race was Yuki Tsunoda with the Alpha Tauri, but once the Japanese made his stop Verstappen regained the lead. The rest of the race saw the same thing that happened in the previous 18 races as he maintained a good pace ahead and controlled the actions with a difference of 7 and 8 seconds once morest Leclerc.
Charles was then overtaken by Sergio “Checo” Pérez with the other Red Bull, but due to the Mexican’s five seconds extra time for a touch on Lando Norris (McLaren). The Czech finished fourth.
The definition of this race was for the runner-up position in the Constructors’ World Championship and although Leclerc added 18 points, it was not enough for the Scuderia that lost to Mercedes, which secured second place thanks to George Russell’s third place in this race. .
By just three points (409 out of 406) the German team was the best of the rest behind Red Bull, which this year capitalized on its sixth crown in the team competition following those achieved between 2010 and 2013 and in 2022.
Verstappen achieved his 19th victory in 22 Grand Prix and the other two victories went to his teammate, the Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez, who secured the runner-up position in the Drivers’ Championship in the last race in Las Vegas; and the Spanish Carlos Sainz, who gave Ferrari the only victory this year by winning in Singapore.
While Max continues to break records and following achieving his 54th victory, he climbed onto the podium of the most winners in the history of F1.
The 26-year-old Dutchman beat Sebastian Vettel by one and was behind Michael Schumacher (91) and Lewis Hamilton (103).
It was a crushing season for Verstappen and Red Bull. With a technical regulation that will remain the same in the next two seasons, it is possible that the Dutchman will equal Juan Manuel Fangio’s five titles.
The 74th season of the Máxima has closed and in 2024 the longest calendar in history will come with 24 Grand Prix. Although the greater the number of races, everything would indicate that Max Verstappen and Red Bull will have more chances to continue winning.
