Max Scherzer’s Season Ended by Low-Grade Teres Major Muscle Strain: Impact on Rangers and Postseason Chances

Max Scherzer will be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season due to a low-grade strain of his teres major muscle, the Rangers announced Wednesday. General manager Chris Young said Scherzer is unlikely to pitch in the postseason.

Scherzer left Tuesday’s game following 5.1 innings of work and was diagnosed with right triceps spasms at the time. In eight starts with Texas since he was traded from the Mets at the Trade Deadline, Scherzer is 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 45 innings.
