The NY Mets team defeated their divisional rivals the Atlanta Braves twice this Saturday, in a doubleheader held at Citi Field in New York. In the first hour, the Metropolitans had a solid opening by David Peterson (6-2), winner of the game, timely batting by Puerto Rican Franscico Lidor (4-3, 3 RBI, 2 R, K) and masterful closing by also Puerto Rican Edwin Díaz (25 SV), to take the victory 8 × 5.

In the closing game, a superb mounding work of his ace, the right Max Scherzer (8-2), was key in the 6×2 victory, which allowed him to widen his lead over the current World Series champions, his pursuers for the top of the National League East Division.
Scherzer pitched seven full innings, allowing just four hits and striking out 11 without allowing runs for his eighth win of the season, while another star, Max Fried (10-4), had the reverse.
On offense, Pete Alonso stood out, going 3-4 with a trailer, while for Atlanta, Venezuelan William Contreras hit his 15th home run of the season.

Now the Mets have a 69-39 record and are 5.5 games ahead of the Braves (64-45).
