It makes very It’s been a long time since Max Pacioretty was able to play in the NHL on a regular basis. After wrist surgery at the end of 2021, the former Canadiens captain suffered a torn right Achilles tendon in the summer of 2022, then unfortunately re-torn the same tendon following just five games. upon his return to the game.
Since the start of the 2021-22 season, therefore, he has only played 44 matches. It’s unfortunate, because he’s a hell of a hockey player.
Clearly, such a long streak of injuries has an impact on the player’s physique, but the mental aspect of it should not be underestimated. It’s painful for guys to put in so much effort to get back into the game…only to suffer another big injury shortly following.
And Pacioretty admitted that. While speaking to the media today, he admitted that he considered retiring following his second major Achilles injury.
In fact, he thought regarding it for almost three months, before deciding he was going to pursue his career.
Max Pacioretty admitted he initially contemplated hanging up the skates following his second Achilles tear. Now, he’s glad he didn’t.

At 34 years old, Pacioretty is still relatively young by NHL standards. Many players are able to play well into their thirties before hanging up their skates, and Packing is not there yet.
That said, we can still understand it having thought regarding it. It will soon be two full years that he is constantly dealing with major injuries and he has even had time to change teams twice since then.
Remember that he was “given” to the Hurricanes in the summer of 2022, then that he signed a one-year contract ($2 million) with the Capitals last summer.
The good news is that the forward is slowly approaching a return to play. He has started skating once more and he seems to have found happiness once more if we rely on what he said today at the press conference.
“This is what I was born to do. It feels like some normalcy in my life. Definitely have much more of a smile on my face now that I’m skating.”

After so many major physical challenges, we obviously hope Pacioretty returns to the game in top shape as quickly as possible. The winger says he has a few dates in mind for a return to play (dates he didn’t want to share with anyone), but he doesn’t want to rush things either.
And when he’s finally ready to return to the game, let’s hope this time it’s for good.
