The Vegas Golden Knights traded forward Max Pacioretty to the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.
Defender Dylan Coghlan is accompanying the former captain of the Montreal Canadiens to Raleigh, the two teams involved have confirmed.
It is mainly a transaction allowing the “Golden Knights” to free up space on the payroll, since they obtained future considerations in return from the two skaters.
Pacioretty had been a member of the Vegas club since September 2018, when the CH traded him for Nick Suzuki, Tomas Tatar and a 2019 second-round pick.
In four campaigns with the Knights, the 33-year-old American scored 97 goals and provided as many assists for 194 points in 224 games. Harassed by injuries last year, Pacioretty still collected 37 points in 39 games. He also has 642 points in 850 career games.
Pacioretty will sign a four-year deal worth $7 million a year next season. For his part, Coghlan played 59 games last year. He had three goals and 10 assists for 13 points.
The Hurricanes also announced that they have signed forward Ondrej Kase for one year and $1.5 million.
Connor Brown also changes his address
Minutes following Pacioretty’s trade, news broke that the Ottawa Senators were sending forward Connor Brown to the Washington Capitals for a 2024 second-round pick.
