Second place in the Drehna race on Saturday was enough for Max Nagl (Husqvarna) to win the title early. It was Nagl’s third Masters title following 2006 and 2008.
The day started for Championship leader Max nail, who competed in the Motocross of Nations for Team Germany last week, was difficult. After a brake defect, the man from Weilheim was only able to do a few laps in the practice sessions. He was also struggling with jet lag from the America tour. nail thus only qualified on P9 for the races.
nail brought a cushion of 59 points to Brandenburg. The starting position was clear: If nail has a lead of 50 or more points following the first run, he would be champion early. The weather conditions were autumnally cool and the sand was wet. When the starting gate fell for the first race, sat down nail despite his unfavorable starting position, won the holeshot and initially controlled the race from the front, followed by Adam Sterry and Jordi Tixier. Henry Jacobiwho once more for that Sarholz-KTM-Team starts, put the fastest in the morning qualifying time but didn’t get off to a good start and fell out of the top 10 following a mistake and then had to fight his way back up the field.
When the lapping began at the end of the race, came nail in distress. Tixierwho meanwhile is at his teammates Sterry had worked past, closed the gap and took the first opportunity to nail to pass the lead.
nail knew that second place would be enough to win the ADAC MX Masters to win in 2022. In the last two laps he didn’t miss a beat and drove his race tactically P2 and thus secured the championship ahead of the last two races on Sunday.
Defending champion and race winner Jordi Tixier congratulated nail: «He was clearly the best this year. For me, this event is also the last with the Sarholz-Team’cause I’m going with Honda in the Supercross-WM get in. It was a great year with the team, for which I would like to thank you.”
Max nail celebrated with his fan club his third ADAC MX Masters championship win. The first two championship successes are far back: he won in 2006 and 2008. “It was a difficult race,” he admitted. “The whole time it’s in your head that it’s regarding the championship and no mistakes can happen. We then got into several tricky situations when lapping, but in the end it worked out and we won this championship with our team and thanks to our sponsors.”
nail can now easily tackle the last two races on Sunday following the title decision has been made.
The races will once more be free of charge from the ADAC Livestream transfer.
