Aprilia RACER Maverick Vinales had doubts regarding being able to finish at the Americas GP because he experienced a technical problem with the gearbox which was not functioning normally with six laps remaining in the race.
Vinales finally came out as the fastest following the fall of the Gresini Racing racer, Marc Marquez, who was leading the pole position in the last ten laps.
“From the sixth lap before the end, I might tell something was wrong with the gearbox. I lost a lot of time on the straight. However, I’m happy because I know that I gave 100% of my ability,” said Vinales, quoted from Aprilia’s online page. Racing, Monday (15/4).
“This weekend, our team took a big step forward. We got our speed back and we showed that the RS-GP24 bike can win. Now we will head to the circuit in Austin, a track that I love and where I will arrive even more motivated than before,” added the Spanish racer.
Vinales finished with a time of 41 minutes and 9.503 seconds, ahead of the Red Bull Gasgas Tech3 racer, Pedro Acosta, who locked in second place. Meanwhile, the final podium was occupied by Ducati Lenovo racer, Ernea Bastianini.
Then in fourth position was Prima Pramac Racing racer, Jorge Martin and fifth position was occupied by defending champion, Ducati Lenovo racer, Francesco Bagnaia.
This victory made Vinales the only racer to win with three different teams, following previously winning with Suzuki and Yamaha.
This victory also means that Vinales is now heating up the race for the MotoGP title by ranking third following collecting 56 points or a difference of three points from Enea Bastianini who is in second place. Meanwhile, the top of the standings is still occupied by Jorge Martin, who has collected 80 points. (Ant/Z-1)
