Thiruvananthapuram: The ASI was found to have been involved in the Kerala Police attack on a train passenger in Kannur. According to the investigation report, MC Pramod behaved inhumanely. The officer was arrested on the instructions of the TTE. But the Special Branch ACP’s report said that it was a serious mistake to step on it while getting off the train. Special Branch ACP handed over the report to Kannur Commissioner.
According to Asianet News, the passenger was kicked out of the train. The man who boarded the sleeper coach of Maveli Express without a ticket was brutally attacked by ASI Pramod. The police officer who came to check on the sleeper coach asked the passenger for a ticket. The passenger replied that there was no sleeper ticket and only the general ticket. The policeman asked him to take the ticket in hand. He was looking for a ticket in his bag when he was kicked and beaten by a policeman with a boot. The passenger who recorded the footage said he was beaten and dragged to the ground and kicked in the chest with a boot. He added that the policeman explained that this was done for the safety of other passengers.
But despite the footage coming out, the police officer is justifying what he did. SII Pramod explains that the only allegation was that the ticketless passenger was dropped off and that he was beaten. Police said they did not know who the passenger was and no case has been registered.
The action of the police officer has drawn sharp criticism. Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that the police in Kerala have been behaving as if they have been out of balance for some time. The latest example of this is the incident at Maveli Express in Kannur. Secondly, following coming to power, the police have completely lost control of the government. Now the party leadership controls police officers at all levels. The whole rhythm of the system, from the upper echelons of the police to the lower echelons, went awry. Satheesan also blamed that the old cell rule is being presented in a new way.
Commissioner Aur Elango said he would recommend stern action in the incident. The city police commissioner said there was nothing wrong with the policeman’s first intervention and clarified that it was a mistake to step on a passenger. The City Police Commissioner’s initial finding was that human rights had been violated. R Elango said the investigation report would be available by the evening.
