The Mauritanians of Belgium met on the twenty-fourth day of Ramadan, this Saturday April 16 in Brussels, for a common breaking of the fast (iftar). In the opinion of the initiators, ”the event is an occasion for gathering and meeting members of the community, and not a political event”. It was forbidden to make political speeches or to consider the event as a platform for an election campaign.

It was a question of allowing all the members of the Mauritanian community in Belgium, especially the families, and their children to meet around the essentials. The initiative also aimed to strengthen social cohesion and strengthen fraternity between Mauritanians in Belgium.

Taking the floor, Messrs. Hacen Abbe and Cheikh Ly, on behalf of the organizers, thanked their compatriots for having responded to the invitation. They were delighted with the good performance of this initiative. According to them, this common iftar was a good opportunity to get to know and strengthen relations between the different components of the Mauritanian community living in Belgium.

It was a great occasion and joyful moment of sharing and communion of the Mauritanian community from all strata. Mauritanians made the trip en masse. Comforted by the massive support of their compatriots, the organizers promise to perpetuate this common Iftar over the next few years.
