#Senegal : Maître Brahim Ebety, coordinator of the collective of State lawyers, a civil party in the case once morest former President Mohamed Abdel Aziz and more than 300 senior officials, provides an update on the procedure in progress following his release interim of the former president.
Thus, Mr. Brahim Ebety, veteran of the bar, current President of the National Order of Mauritanian Lawyers (ONA), clarifies the status of Mohamed Abdel Aziz, beneficiary of a release under tight judicial control, decided by the pole of the three anti-corruption judges on the basis of a medical recommendation, following an operation at the Nouakchott Cardiology Hospital.

Maître Ebety then returns to the links of the accusation once morest the former President of the Republic and his companions, prosecuted for a series of offenses linked to his decade of governance: “corruption, illicit enrichment, influence peddling, laundering,…”.
Circumstances “which lead to the reversal of the burden of proof” in accordance with the national law relating to the fight once morest corruption adopted in 2016, which takes up the principles of the international convention relating to the matter.
Thus, it is up to the former Head of State to prove the lawful origin of the immense heritage which he acknowledges being the holder.

Evoking a prospect of internationalization of the file following a threat brandished by the defence, master Brahim Ebety considers that this “is not salable” on this ground, given the mistrust of all continental and world authorities by in relation to the offenses referred to in the current proceedings.
Mohamed Abdel Aziz and his companions are prosecuted on the basis of a report drawn up by a Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CEP).
