Center of all eyes during the annual dinner of the Libertad Foundation, the former president Mauricio Macri gave a closing speech, together with former presidents Sebastián Piñera (Chile), Felipe Calderón (Mexico) and Jorge Quiroga (Bolivia), and was close to Patricia Bullrich.
When he took the stage following 11 p.m., the former president looked at his cell phone and began to read a written speech. But, quickly, he joked that it was regarding a text made with artificial intelligence through the GPT Chat. “I just did it at the table and I do it because this shows the technological revolution in which humanity is, which is now entering a new phase and which is going to have a great impact on our lives”, he began.
Macri continued his brief speech in front of the liberal leaders and lamented the “lost” years. “In Argentina we are with the highest inflation in 31 years, without currency, with more than 40 exchange rates, whipped back by drug trafficking. The power outages that we thought we were no longer going to have returned. Issues that belong to the 20th century, while our neighbors already resolved it a long time ago”.
After that, he pointed once morest the Government: “This is the product of a demolition armywhich has done never-before-seen damage in such a short time.”
However, he was optimistic for the future. “This that I have been feeling and dreaming of as the end of populism It will open up 20 years of growth in Argentina that we have been waiting for a long time”, express. And he added: “Since I have never been an intellectual, I am an optimist. I think that all this pain that we are having today has been transformed into learning, into maturity”.
The founder of PRO insisted that the change “will take work” and that “it will not be the product of a savior but of a team.” Also, he assured: “I think we are regarding to dawn.”
“We have very hard months ahead of us, because when you are aimlessly without a plan, without a government and with the impunity with which they act every day, they destroy more levels of institutions, they push more people into poverty. We need a lot of maturity, cohesion and firmness to defend the process that remains until this long-awaited change of government that is regarding to arrive”, he stated.
The former president shared that he lives this moment as “a new era”, following he announced this Sunday that he is stepping aside in the presidential race.
At the end of the speech, he made a parallel with the triumph of the national team in Qatar and the future of Argentina. “I don’t think it was a coincidence. It was a confirmation of what I had been dreaming of. That group of young people transmitted mental health. A technical team of all sensible people. Having the best player in humanity, no one stayed to wait to be saved, each one fought, each one fought and suffered and the team came out champion. That marked a path for us. They told us, it’s this way, it’s humid.”
Finally, he concluded: “A change of era is coming and we all need to be protagonists. I hope we are all helping the next president turn history around.”
During the event, a “battle” broke out over the photos, following Macri’s announcement and the internal stronghold that Juntos por el Cambio is going through. Although the first photo of the former president was for Rodríguez Larreta, during dinner he might be seen talking with the candidate and leader of PRO, Patricia Bullrich, who was the first to arrive at the Golden Center. Bullrich sat next to Awada, to the left of Macri, and Larreta next to Argimón, to the right of the former president.
Also, the former Minister of Security received compliments from the former Brazilian judge and current senator Sergio Moro. “She was a minister who fought once morest criminals and organized crime,” he said before the venue that erupted in applause.
Before the speeches of the invited ex-presidents –sebastian pinera (Chile), Felipe Calderon (Mexico) and Jorge Quiroga (Bolivia)- Moro opened the last part of the gala with special mentions to those present and a greeting to Lionel Messi and the Argentine soccer team crowned in Qatar. However, the gesture he had with the president of Pro, Patricia Bullrich, stood out.
