According to the ÖBB, the construction work on the Mattigtalbahn was completed in time for the start of school, and the rail replacement service will end on Sunday. The train stations in Munderfing, Mattighofen and Mauerkirchen will reopen to travellers.

During the three-month construction phase, around 20,000 tons of ballast and 9.5 kilometers of new rails were laid. In addition to modernization work at the stations in Munderfing, Mattighofen and Mauerkirchen, new island platforms with a total length of 480 meters were built.

State-of-the-art security technology

On this occasion, seven railway crossings along the Mattigtalbahn were modernized and technically upgraded. According to ÖBB, the newly erected electronic interlockings at the three stations will have the most modern security technology following completion. The remaining work will continue until 2023.

Mattigtalbahn should be more climate-friendly

The technical safety or abandonment of all level crossings along the route is a basic requirement for the forthcoming electrification, according to the ÖBB. This is an important sign for climate protection. Photovoltaic systems in all three stations are to produce electricity for the operation of the stations in the future.
