Italian Mattia Cattaneo has extended his contract with Soudal Quick-Step until 2025, the Belgian WorldTour cycling team announced on Monday.
Cattaneo, 32, joined the ‘Wolfpack’ in 2020 from Italian team Androno Giocattoli-Sidermec. Since then, he has established himself as one of Remco Evenepoel’s most valuable teammates. He notably accompanied him on the last Tour of Italy.
The Italian began his professional career with Lampre-Merida in 2013. In the Quick-Step jersey, he finished 2nd in the 9th stage of the Tour de France 2021 and also 2nd in the Italian time trial championships this year behind Filippo Ganna.
What can we expect from Evenepoel at the Tour in 2024? “Remco can offer us a three-way fight”
“I am very happy to continue my adventure in the Wolfpack and proud to be part of this special team. I think I have delivered a good job in recent years, I have found my place and I am happy to be able to use my experience to help the team to evolve. My objectives for the next two years are above all to help the team in stage races and continue to improve in the time trial, “reacted Cattaneo, quoted in the press release.
“Mattia is an important rider for us and we are delighted to be able to benefit from his services for the next two years,” added Patrick Lefevere, manager of Soudal Quick-Step. “He’s a strong climber and has a nice burst of speed on the flat. He can offer a lot in different scenarios and it’s fantastic to have a deal with him.”
