The two students Daniel and Paul help diligently on Monday to load the furniture into the truck. “When there is time, you have to help – that’s a duty,” say the young men. “We’re doing so well, we can help,” says helper Bastian.
The truck is scheduled to leave for Ukraine today, Tuesday. The delivery is to be received by the local Caritas director, a friend of Kroiss. The furniture will be used to set up emergency shelters for refugees. “People feel safer in the border area,” says Kroiss. An attack by the Russians is not expected in the region.
Aid projects since 2016
The pastor has maintained close contact with Uzhhorod for years. Kroiss has been involved there with his association “2getthere” since 2016. Together with the local Caritas, he coordinates an aid project to support children affected by the war.
Pastor Kroiss is enthusiastic regarding the helpfulness of the people in Burgenland. He himself is on duty from morning to evening to organize the aid convoys.
“We would now need ten more articulated lorries to bring the pallets with the relief supplies to Ukraine,” says Kroiss.
