From the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), the association of companies behind the open source Matter standard, which enables interoperability between smart devices regardless of their manufacturer or the IoT ecosystem to which they belong, is now turning its sights to connected health and well-being and the full range of possibilities that can be offered in the future.
In this regard, they point out that they have created a specific working group with the aim of creating technical standards and launching a certification program for the interoperability of IoT devices in this segment.
It can be seen, so that the idea can be understood more clearly, how to carry out a specific “Matter” to enable the interoperability of connected health and wellness devices with other devices.
As they state in their statement:
the goal is to align major industry contributors around a common technology standard to support secure, plug-and-play interoperability of health and wellness devices
A job that is in its initial stage
At the moment, the new working group is in an initial stage of development, so there are not many details regarding it, although they already have a roadmap.
From it, it wants to start by supporting “aging in place” and independent living by using the valuable data obtained through connected devices, and then expand to address a wide set of devices and cases of home health and wellness use such as:
remote patient monitoring, management of chronic conditions and acute care at home
In this way, and following the example of Matter, the Health and Well-being Working Group intends to apply technological solutions on a global scale that allow people to be healthier and longer, with total independence, in their own homes.
But for this to be possible, they must ensure that connectivity between devices and services is simple and reliable.
And they point out that:
Realizing the full potential of this initiative requires standardized technology approaches that support interoperability, security, data reliability, and ease of use—the building blocks for driving scale and market adoption.
Involve the sector to achieve the maximum guarantees in the industry
The CSA will have to convince a sufficient number of companies and organizations belonging to the health and wellness space to be able to launch this initiative with the maximum guarantees in the industry.
To do this, they invite you to participate and become a member of the Alliance a:
Medical device manufacturers, on-site aging service providers, healthcare providers, third-party payers, pharmacies, and relevant government regulatory agencies.
