Headliner of the tricolor Nordic combined, Mattéo Baud (22 years old) is ready to attack a new winter. His Team SPORTMAG interview.
The summer period always an important time before the winter season. How was your preparation this summer?
Once again, I am very satisfied with the work I was able to do! I really did a lot of training and it was tough, but I managed to do it well and take it. For the physical part, it’s a 10/10. I had a strong summer, regular and clearly improving compared to last year. On the other hand, for the jump, I cannot say the same. Two big falls slowed down my progress and lowered my confidence, leading to a lot of doubt… So I had a lot of trouble stabilizing this level and getting back up again.
How did the return to the summer Grands Prix go?
I got a podium overall, and that freed me up, I was able to really move forward. Overall, it is a very satisfactory preparation. I would especially say my most regular overall, and even in my life as an athlete in general. Less stress, more quality, more work.
“Arrive at the Worlds in good shape and with confidence”
Now, we are in the final stretch, with the first round of the World Cup at the end of November. In what state of mind are you approaching winter?
I feel good, fresh and rested. The form only increases, and the excitement too. I am in agreement with myself and my goals, I am ready to give my best in this important season to arrive at the Worlds as fit and as confident as possible!
What is the state of mind within the French team?
The French team is also rising! Group B has expanded and the general level has increased, with more thoughtful and regular training for the combined. Now the focus is on the ski jumping level. Everything is falling into place and I already have stars in my eyes! Looking forward to touching up the snow and heading up into the Scandinavian night for the opening of the season.
