It is not his first visit to Africa, it is instead the first time of an Italian head of state in Côte d’Ivoire where he will arrive on 2 April and then move to Ghana on 4 April. With this trip Mattarella confirms his attention and also his approach to the continent by giving priority to cooperation, partnership between economies and closer collaboration in terms of energy, security and training also in light of migratory flows. So much so that one of the key stages will be the inauguration, on 6 April in Ghana, of the Academy that Confindustria Alto Adriatico has created to train local labor in the most sought-following professional profiles in the production world of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. This was explained just yesterday by the president of Confindustria AA Agrusti who anticipated Mattarella’s visit to the laboratories where the courses are held. «A great honor – said Agrusti – but above all the tangible importance that the country’s institutions assign to initiatives of this kind and, I believe, ours can be considered as a pilot proposal because it addresses fundamental issues related to work and immigration. It is no coincidence that we are also receiving membership requests from other Confindustria entities.”
In fact, the project responds to the vision that Mattarella has of the relationship with African countries, oriented towards a less emergency, more planned management of migration and with positive effects for both countries. A logic that he carried on his travels to Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Algeria and Zambia, Cameroon and Angola. It will now focus on two states that represent a strategic link with the Sahel area, where Islamic fundamentalism, terrorist cells and illegal immigration flows are under the Western lens. Furthermore, Mattarella will cover another hot topic such as the security of maritime trade routes by visiting, in Ghana, the Bettica offshore patrol vessel of the Navy, engaged in a program to combat piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. The calendar of the trip includes – on the first day – a face-to-face meeting with President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan, and immediately followingwards he will visit an Eni plant, the Baleine pumping station. In Ghana, following the meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, he will visit Christiansborg Castle, from which the slave ships departed. A full immersion to strengthen relationships with African realities in harmony with the Mattei Plan even if on a non-operational level but certainly collaborative with Palazzo Chigi.
