GC has found Sky Sun’s successor: Matt Jackson, former Premier League player, will be the new president. Jackson has a common past with sports director Bernt Haas and coach Bruno Berner. Jackson, who will be relocating to Zurich, will take a seat on the board of directors at GC in place of the Chinese Bill Pan and will be responsible for operational management at the club in the future.
The new GC President is called Matt Jackson. Jackson made over 140 Premier League appearances as a defender. In 1995 he won the Everton Cup. After retiring in 2008, Jackson held various management roles in English football, most recently as Head of Strategic Player Marketing at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“A former Premier League defender, Jackson played in Everton’s FA Cup-winning side in 1995 before captaining Norwich and Wigan. He retired as a player in 2008 and has remained in the business ever since, mainly with Wigan Athletic FC. There he was able to gain a wide range of experience and expertise in various management positions, including Head of Recruitment, Academy Manager and Head of Football Operations,” the GC said in a published statement.
Shared past with Haas and Berner
Unlike his predecessor, Jackson is said to be in Switzerland to carry out his duties. “The new president, who will have his permanent seat in Zurich, will take over operational management and at the same time be the direct contact for sports director Bernt Haas in all sporting matters. Jackson will also join the board of directors, replacing Bill Pan,” GC wrote.
Jackson knows both sports director Bernt Haas and Bruno Berner from earlier times together. “I am happy to find Bruno in Zurich, with whom I completed my coaching license more than 10 years ago, as well as with Bernt, once morest whom I was allowed to play in the Premier League,” Jackson is quoted as saying.
Jackson also thanks for the trust received and goes on to say: “Now it is important to work together to identify potential for improvement and to optimize structures and processes with the aim of building a competitive team and a sustainable, financially healthy club that is already can inspire our fans, partners and patrons once more next season.»
