In mammals, sexual reproduction between a female and a male animal is the only known form of reproduction. Until now, zoology has assumed that vaginal copulation occurs in all species: a penis, however shaped, penetrates the female sexual organ into which the sperm cells are poured. Due to the nocturnal and difficult-to-observe lifestyle of bats, the mating behavior of bats has so far been a blank spot on the map of animal copulation research.
