Mathilde and Philippe share moving images of the funeral of Elizabeth II

A privileged link with Belgium. In 1993, Elizabeth II made history by going personally to the funeral of King Baudouin in Brussels. A notable exception. The two crowned heads, who had acceded to the throne at the dawn of the 1950s, maintained a beautiful friendship. This Monday, September 19, Philippe and Mathilde were naturally at Westminster Abbey for the funeral of the late Her Majesty.

The King and Queen of the Belgians have, via the official account of the Palace, shared some pictures of this most solemn official trip. “The King and Queen paid their last respects to Queen Elizabeth II yesterday at Westminster Hall. Today Sovereigns attended the State Funeral at Westminster Abbey”, can we read on Instagram. The emotion of the royal couple is palpable there and we can also see Felipe VI and Letizia of Spain in one of the chosen photos. Albert and Charlene from Monaco, Margrethe II from Denmark or even Rania and Abdallah from Jordan had made the trip to say goodbye to the 96-year-old queen.
