This gala will take place the day following the end of the suspension imposed on GYM by the Régie des alcools, des courses et de jeux for events occurring at the end of the gala presented at Place Bell in Laval, last October.

Yvon Michel, still under a personal suspension for these events, will therefore not be present to attend the gala.

“I won’t be in the room, but I won’t be far,” he said with a smile.

Mathieu Germain (23-2-1 9 KOs) will face the Mexican Jesus Antonio Rubio (14-8-2, 8 KOs) whose record does not say everything.

The IBF Intercontinental super-lightweight belt holder who is currently the 9th IBF contender maintains that Rubio is dangerous for him.

“He’s a guy who boxes well and is much better than his record. His defeats came once morest good boxers. He is an opponent who has seen others, he allows me to stay active and stay focused on my goal.

“He has everything to gain and nothing to lose while I have little to gain and everything to lose because it’s a fight to stay active. We punch each other in the face so there’s always a risk.”

Germain’s name is starting to circulate and he wants to take advantage of it because at 34, he knows he’s not getting any younger.

“I might be a next opponent for Subriel Matias in the World Championship.”

The Puerto Rican is the current holder of the IBF welterweight belt.

“I have to win my next fights to stay in the rankings and when the call comes, jump at the opportunity to try to cause an upset,” insists Germain.

“My goal is to win and fight in major fights. I’m not getting any younger, I’m ready, and victory is even more important than normal.

Longueuillois Mazlum Akdeniz, who might be a possible opponent for Germain, threw a small arrow at him, suggesting that he was thinking too big.

“We’re going to tell each other the truth, a fight once morest Matias is not a good idea, but I’m not his manager.”
