“I am not a member of any criminal organization, that is why I do not know any of its 21 alleged members… except only for Dr. Nicanor Boluarte, because I am a lawyer for his sister, the president,” he continued, considering that he faces unjustified accusations.
For this reason, he requested the intervention of the Lima jurists’ union. “I will defend myself against these ‘orchestrated’ accusations. In my case there was no need to stop. I strongly protest this fact. and I ask my colleagues at Lima Bar Association their intervention to control these excesses that threaten the free exercise of our profession. The Prosecutor’s Office accuses Castañera of promising promotions and “protection” to the colonels of the National Police (PNP), Harvey Colchado and Walter Lozanoso that they intercede before the Special Team of Prosecutors against Corruption of Power (Eficcop) and achieve the archiving of the investigation against Nicanor Boluarte. Colchado and Lozano, who acted as undercover agents in the operation, were part of the police group in charge of assisting prosecutors.
According to a report by TV Epicentre, The lawyer specifically requested Lozano, during a meeting at a Pardos chain restaurant, that the case against the head of state’s brother be closed or transferred to an anti-corruption prosecutor’s office in Lima. In that place, he claimed to be able to exert influence.
However, Lozano recommended that he formally proceed with the referral request before Marita Barreto, head of Eficcop, who finally rejected the appeal. In search of another ally, Castañeda then turned to Colchado, whom he reached through the former Minister of the Interior, Carlos Moran.
According to the investigation portal, the lawyer would use the expression “exchange figurines” when asking Colchado to look for “something” against the Attorney General, Juan Carlos Villena, and his deputy, Hernán Mendoza. […] There they will determine that these meetings were fabricated, what they did to me was an ambush, it is a trap,” he concluded.
During the hearing, both Castañeda and the ruler’s brother reported having health problems, such as high blood pressure, high glucose levels and asthma, so they sought care from private specialists. The judge, after a consultation with the Prosecutor’s Office, accepted their requests and established that they be subsequently re-examined by a medical examiner.
