Masterchef already has semifinalists (Video: Telefe)
This Sunday the last Masterchef elimination gala took place before the grand final that would be seen on Monday, August 7. The four participants who reached this stage were Rodolfo, Antonio, Rodrigo and Estefanía. Each of them had a star, but unlike previous editions, instead of competing to see which of them would go up to the balcony, the jury made up of Damián Betular, Donato De Santis and Germán Martitegui explained that throughout the night they would go around the different islands testing the preparations and thus they would define who would be saved from being left out of the contest.
The slogan of the night had to do with mushrooms, one of Germán’s favorite ingredients who, showing a showcase full of them, gave a master class on the matter. “Today they are going to face the most feared challenge, that of Martitegui,” said Betular. And the chef began to cook a mushroom shawarma, while the contestants took note of the recipe. With the finished dish, everyone had the chance to taste the preparation and they were fascinated.
“For tonight’s test they will have 70 minutes,” Donato announced. And he said that they would have 3 minutes in the market, but that the mushrooms would have to be harvested themselves from the cabinet set up in the kitchen and that, as the chef had explained, they were cut by hand. With all the ingredients in their possession, the contestants began to cook.
Germán Martitegui gave a master class on mushrooms
Before the test ended, the chefs went around the counters checking flavors and determined that Rodolfo would go up to the balcony and become the first semifinalist of the night. Thus, the journalist specializing in royalty was able to leave the kitchen and take off his black apron. The rest, meanwhile, got 8 extra minutes to finish their dishes. And, with the time fulfilled, it was time for the tasting.
Estefanía presented mushroom shawarma in cappuccina with yogurt, mint and basil sauce. Antonio made mushroom shawarma in a pita with yasgua sauce and babaganush. Finally, Rodrigo brought his mushroom shawarma with yogurt and tahini sauce, red onion pickles and toasted almonds. After deliberating, the jury returned its verdict.
With the three participants in the front, the chefs announced that the one who had to leave the Masterchef kitchen was Antonio. “That’s it. This is over for me. I’m already happy, I’m going home with mine. And this is just beginning,” said the man from Salta backstage. Meanwhile, Rodrigo and Estefanía joined Rodolfo and will be in the semifinal, for which they were able to return to their work islands.
Unable to hide his tears, following hearing the praise from the jury members, Antonio said goodbye, assuring: “I just want to say thank you very much. I leave very happy. What this program did to me I will not forget. He took something out of me that I didn’t even know. I leave one hundred percent changed. I’m going to work, I want to study, I want to progress, I want to get ahead… I’m not going to stay here. I already fulfilled a dream. Thank you all very much for having received me”. While everyone applauded moved, Wanda Nara, conductor of the cycle, told the nursing student with misty eyes. “The whole country wants to see you fulfill your dream.”
