The National Transitional Council (CNT) is preparing to provide Guinea with a new Constitution.
48 hours before the start of work on the constitutional orientation debate scheduled for Monday, May 15, the national councilors are committed to drafting a Constitution that meets the aspirations of the people of Guinea.
“We can write a constitution, cast it in stone, but we don’t have democratic leaders, that would be useless. We are going to draw up a constitution by learning the lessons of the past, by trying to capitalize on the failures and the successes that we have known in our constitutional history, but if tomorrow we don’t have a Democratic president, who has the spirit of the law, he will pass by constitutional artifices”, declared this Saturday the former president of the Bar, Maître Mohamed Traoré.
In Africa, when the leaders want to change the Constitution, it is not with the aim of improving the democratic system, nor in the context of constitutional rectification, added this adviser to the CNT.
“It is a reality when we say that peoples are free even to change their best constitutions. This is because sovereignty belongs to the people, they are the primary holders of power who delegate it to their representatives. Unfortunately, in Africa the notion of people is misguided”, he regrets.
