An accident in a distillery caused a surprising and impressive flood of red wine in the village of São Lourenço do Bairro, in central Portugal.
A torrent of red wine. This Sunday, September 10, the streets of the small village of São Lourenço do Bairro, in central Portugal, were literally flooded with wine following an accident at the Levira distillery.
According to the local press, two vats burst causing more than two million liters of wine fit for consumption to spill onto the streets.
In the images, we indeed discover a garnet-colored torrent flowing very quickly down a sloping alley.
No injuries but damage
Although the incident did not cause any injuries, the leak nevertheless caused significant material damage since it flooded the main road, neighboring streets, land and at least one cellar, reports Diary of Coimbra.
The company said it “deeply regrets the incident” and said it would “assume responsibility for the costs associated with repairs and cleaning up the damage.”
For its part, the municipality explained that it had managed to prevent an environmental disaster by preventing the torrent of wine from reaching a river. The precious liquid was indeed able to be dredged and transported to a treatment plant, indicates Newspaper.
