Up to 200,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were without power in Montreal on Thursday followingnoon, in the midst of a heat wave.
More than 300 breakdowns were caused by “equipment failure” were listed in the middle of the followingnoon, Thursday, in the metropolis, mainly in the West Island as well as in Saint-Laurent, Côte-Des-Neiges, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and Côte-Saint-Luc.

The state-owned company indicates via Twitter that these breaks occurred due to the “triggering of a protection mechanism on one of [ses] high voltage transmission lines”.

She adds that her “teams are mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible”.
A little following 4 p.m., Hydro-Québec informed its customers affected by the power outages that they should have electricity “by the end of the followingnoon or the beginning of the evening.”
Voltage recovery on the affected high-voltage line is in progress. We will soon be able to begin restoring service in the affected neighborhoods. The majority of affected customers should have regained service by late followingnoon or early evening.…

However, Hydro-Québec cannot confirm what triggered this mechanism.
Some activities were disrupted at Montréal-Trudeau airport due to power outages.
The US Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) indicates that flights from the United States to Montreal may experience delays.
