The Bogotá Fire Department, with its units from the Kennedy, Fontibón and Central stations, responded to an emergency that originated on South 49th Street and 95A Highway due to a grass burning. Based on preliminary versions, the conflagration has affected lots of the former Gibraltar landfill.

“We were alerted by the smoke it raised. Suddenly, (there) they burned garbage,” said a neighbor in dialogue with Citytv.

“Liquidation work begins. Support from the specialized Unmanned Aircraft Group is activated to generate georeferencing and detect the affected area,” the authorities said.

“No injuries have been reported,” they added.

Why was there a smell and smoke in several locations, such as Kennedy, Chapinero and Teusaquillo?

While they were controlling the fire, the smoke spread to various sectors of the capital due to the fluctuation of the winds.

“Due to the speed and direction of the wind, in the sectors of Chapinero and Teusaquillo there is presence of smoke coming from the forest fire that is being controlled to the south-west of the city,” stated the Fire Department.

Sources from the District Institute of Risk Management and Climate Change (Idiger) explained to this newspaper that it is a “natural and normal condition.” The wind carries the particulate matter: “They are not warning signs.”
