A major fire broke out in the shopping complex in Maumere City, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at around 07:30 WITA.
The flames quickly grew and burned down six shophouses on Jalan Raja Centis, Kota Baru Village, Alok Timur District, Sikka Regency.
Two fire engines, one water cannon from the Sikka Police, and 10 water tanks were deployed to extinguish the fire.
Head of the Sikka Civil Service Police Unit and Fire Department, Buang Da Cunha, explained that the source of the fire came from a stove explosion in a cake shop that was making cakes at the time.
Not only that, the main trigger for the fire was also because the shop next to the source of the fire sold fireworks and kerosene so the fire spread very quickly.
Firefighters and the public struggled to extinguish the fire. After about two hours, the fire was finally extinguished.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities in the incident, but losses are estimated to reach hundreds of millions.
